René Millán, a first generation Mexican-American, was born and raised in San Diego ,
CA . In his senior year at the University of San Diego High School, he was cast as
Inspector Hound in “The Real Inspector Hound” by Tom Stoppard, and an awkward,
shy young man began to emerge from his shell. Still too insecure to pursue acting
as a career, Millán went on to the University of Redlands where he earned a B.A.
in History and a minor in Education.
After graduation from the University of Redlands , Millán taught high school
history, waited tables, and sang with the San Diego Opera before he finally decided
to apply for the University of Washington ’s Professional Actor Training Program,
in Seattle , WA where he was accepted.
After 3 years of intense training, Millán earned his MFA from the University of
Washington, and relocated to New York City . Since then, his climb to success has
been steady, as he has garnered roles in film, television, and theatre.
In his film debut, Millán played the role of Hector, an illegal immigrant busboy,
in “In the Weeds,” an independent feature directed by Michael Rauch and starring
Molly Ringwald and Eric Bogosian.
Millán made his Broadway debut in “The Wild Party” by Michael John LaChuisa
(Marie Christine, Little Fish) and director George C. Wolfe (Angels in America ,
Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk). The show also starred Toni Collette, Mandy
Patinkin, Eartha Kitt, and Mark Kudish.
Regionally, Millán starred as Leonardo in “Blood Wedding” by Federico Garcia Lorca
at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre.
Millán played the role of "Steve" in the feature film, “In America” directed by
Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father). The film went on to
receive critical acclaim and 3 Academy Award Nominations. If you haven't seen it

Millán played Ramon, a no-good drug lord on the 4th Season of the NBC cop drama,
"Third Watch."
In Minneapolis once again, Millán starred as Sonny Villa in “I Don’t Have to
Show You No Stinkin’ Badges” by Luis Valdez at the Mixed Blood Theatre.
At the 27th Annual Humana Festival of New Plays at The Actor’s Theatre of
Louisville, Millán starred in Rinne Groff’s “Orange Lemon Egg Canary” directed by
Michael Sexton. He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of “Great”, an
expert magician with dark secrets. To prepare for the role, Millán did an intense

Millán and his wife, actress Sarah Jane Nelson, co-produced a reading of “El Paso
Blue” by Octavio Solis in New York City . From that reading, the project was
picked up by Wonderland Pictures and adapted into a feature film. Both Nelson and
Millán are set to star.
On the 2nd Season of "The Dave Chappelle Show" Rene played the Mexican dinner
party guest in a now infamous skit about a white family that happens to have
"The N-Word" as their last name.
Millán, opposite David Caruso, co-started as "Luis Alvera" on "CSI: Miami."
Rene performed in "El Paso Blue” at the First Annual Summer Play Festival.
Starring opposite his wife, Sarah Jane Nelson,
the show played at the Acorn Theatre on Theatre Row in New York City.
On the NBC daytime soap, "Days of Our Lives" Rene played the recurring role of
Father Antonio. He also shot national network commercials for Burger King and
Bud Light, and recorded a voice over for a Spanish language Burger King ad.
In Los Angeles , Rene originated the role of "Lakshman" in "As Vishnu Dreams,"
a new play by Shihshir Krudup and directed by Juliette Carillio. The project was
a joint production with Cornerstone Theatre and East West Players.
At the Mark Taper Forum, Rene performed in "Electricidad" written by Luis Alfaro
and directed by Lisa Peterson.
At the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland , Oregon Rene starred in the
world-premiere production of Gibraltar by playwright, Octavio Solis and
directed by Liz Diamond and in 2006 he played the role of The Bastard in
King John and Lignere in Cyrano de Begerac. In the 2007 season, watch for him
as Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet and the tiger in a new adaptation of Tracy’s Tiger.
On a personal note, Rene and his wife are the proud parents of Rosalee Nelson Millán.
